I.  CHRISTMAS IS MYSTERY UPON MYSTERY!

     A.  Why?

     B.  How?

II. NOTE THIS MARVELOUS PASSAGE FROM ISAIAH.

     A. Isaiah has given us two pictures that we have seen already –

“Wonderful Counselor” and “The Mighty God!”

     B. Now Isaiah calls Jesus, the Coming One, “The Everlasting Father.”

III. THE FATHER!!

     A. There were all kinds of names of God in the Old Testament, but

none as endearing as the “Father”.

     B. Uses of Father in the Old Testament include Psalm 68:5, Psalm 89:6,

          Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 63:15-16, Isaiah 64:8, and Malachi 3:1 & 2:10.

     C. You can see that it was only a select few that knew the Mighty God

          as Father.

     D. It was not until the coming of Christ that this relationship was fully

          seen.

IV.  THE FATHER OF THE NEW TESTAMENT!

     A. The Gospels reveal the prominence of the Father.

     B. Some prominent verses are John 1:1-18 Luke 2:49; John 2:16;

         Matthew 5-7, John 5:18, John 8, Matthew 11:25, John 14; Luke

         23:34-46, and Matthew 28:19.

     C. Every book of the New Testament calls God the “Father” except for

         III John.

V. EVERLASTING FATHER!

     A. Everlasting and Eternal describe time with God.

     B. The term looks at the continuity, duration of God, as being age-

lasting, never to be destroyed.  See Deut. 33:27, Psalm 24:7; Psalm

        103:17; Daniel 9:2 and 7:14; Isaiah 51:11.

     C. Jesus used the word “everlasting” or “eternal” a number of times as

         In Matthew 19:29, Matthew 25:41-46.

     D. Paul in Romans 16:26 refers to the commandment of the everlasting

          God.

     E. Revelation 14:6 refers to an everlasting Gospel.
