SERMON OUTLINE: I BELONG TO GOD

SCRIPTURE READING: I JOHN 3:1-2

INTRO: This is the first in a five part series entitled, “I BELONG”.

 I. SINCE GOD IS MY CREATOR, THEN I MUST BELONG TO HIM.

A. One of the first truths of Scripture is the picture of God our Maker. Gen. 1Gen. 2

 B. There are many Biblical references to the fact of a Creator. Isaiah 40:28; Psalm 100:3; Eccl. 12:1; Malachi 2:10; John 1:3; Col. 1:17

C. As a part of creation, then we should belong to the Creator.

D. If God is our Creator and we belong to Him, and Christ is our Creator and we belong to Him, then the whole world belongs to God. But we have a problem!

II. SINCE GOD THROUGH CHRIST IS MY SAVIOR THEN I MUST BELONG TO HIM.

 A. There is no other way for man to be saved. John 14:6

B. Jesus is the only name whereby man can be saved. Acts 4:12

C. When we trust Christ as Savior, then we become His possession.

D. What we have “in Christ” is the theme of Ephesians.

III. SINCE I BELONG TO GOD HE IS THE SOURCE OF ALL MY NEEDS!

A. He watches over us with His eyes. Ps. 34:15; Ps. 33:18; 2 Chr. 16:9

B. He listens to our prayers with His ears. I Peter 3:12; Ps. 34:15

 C. He instructs us by His Word. Psalm 119:11

D. He loves us with His heart. I John 3:1-2; Matthew 22:37

E. He supports us by His arms and hands. Deut. 33:27; Ps. 37:23-24

F. He kisses us with His lips. Song of Solomon 1:2

G. He leads us by His Spirit. Romans 8:14

H. He encourages us by His promises. 2 Peter 1:4

IV. SINCE I BELONG TO GOD THEN I SHOULD LIVE AND ACT LIKE HIS CHILD.

A. One of the greatest tragedies is the way we live and act as a Christian.

B. God is our Father! We are made in His image.
