I BELONG To The Church
SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 16:13-18
INTRO: This is the fourth in a five part series,
entitled, “I BELONG”.
I. WE MUST BELONG TO THE CHURCH THAT BELONGS TO JESUS.
A. Our Name – “The Church of Christ”.
Matthew 16:18;
Acts 2
B. Our Creed – “No Creed but Christ”.
C. Our Foundation – Built upon Christ Himself.
Matthew 16:18;
Colossians 1:8;
Ephesians 1:22-23;
I Corinthians 3:9-11;
Ephesians 2:19-22
D. Our Guide – The Bible as the Word of God.
Psalm 119:105;
2 Timothy 3:14-17
E. Our Worship – As found in the New Testament.

Acts 20:7; I
Corinthians 16:2;
Ephesians 5:18;
Colossians 3:16.
F. Our Hope – In the Second Coming of Christ.
II. WE MUST BELONG TO THE CHURCH AS THE BASIS OF OUR SALVATION.
A. Membership in the church is automatic when we are baptized.
B. Local membership can be transferred from one congregation to
another.
C. Dedication to the local church to which we belong is important.
Romans 12:1-2;
Acts 20:7
D. The church to which we belong needs to strive to keep seven
unities.
Ephesians 4:1-6
E. These seven unities are the foundation for the unity of the church
to
which we should belong.
III. LET US BRING THIS DOWN TO HOME.
A. The Linton Church of Christ exists because Christ is the head of
the
church.
B. This church meets to worship, study, fellowship, etc., and to be a
shining
light in this community.
C. How do we grow as a congregation?
