SERMON OUTLINE: ISAIAH’S FOUR NAMES – THE PRINCE OF PEACE!

 SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 9:1-7 

INTRO:  The message of Christ and Christmas is a message of peace. 

I.  THE ROYAL TITLES OF THE MESSIAH ARE SIGNIFICANT.

   A. “Wonderful Counselor” points to our advocate.

   B. “Mighty God” shows us “God in the flesh”.

   C. “Everlasting Father” looks at His eternal existence.

   D. Today we will look at the title “Prince of Peace.” 

II. THE POSITION OF A PRINCE MAY NOT BE UNDERSTOOD IN OUR

      SOCIETY AS WELL AS IT IS IN OTHERS.

   A. The Christ born in Bethlehem is a Son of the King of the Universe.

   B. Christ is the Prince who is the Son of the Almighty God!  John 1:1-5;

       Colossians 1:13-19; Matthew 21:33-40

   C. Since Christ is the Prince, all that He owns we will inherit also. 

       Romans 8:16-17; Matthew 25:34

   D. Isaiah 53:1 asks, “Who has believed our Message?”  Peter answered

        for us.  Acts 3:15; Acts 5:31

   E. There should be no question in our minds as to the identification of

        the Prince. 

III. PRINCE OF WHAT?  PEACE!

   A. There has not been much peace since the Garden of Eden.

   B. Note the original words in Isaiah 9:6.

       1. Hebrew - “Shalom”!

       2. Translated into Greek -- “Eirenes”!

   C. The Prince of Peace – Jesus!

       1. Note the purpose of His coming – to bring peace!

       2. Only Jesus has this capability.

       3. There is no peace apart from the Prince of Peace.

       4. Note the use of the word in His birth and in His death.  Luke 2:14;

           John 14:27; John 16:33; Romans 15:33; 2 Corinthians 13:11

   D. What does this peace do?  Note Philippians 4:7-9/

   E. When will there be peace on earth?
