WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE BIBLE?
SCRIPTURE READING: ROMANS 10:12-17
INTRO: Last Sunday we focused on Jesus being the focal point of Scripture. The story of the Bible is the story of Christ. What else can we learn?
I. WE LEARN MORE AND MORE ABOUT GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION. A. In Genesis we read about the creation and fall of man. Gen. 1-3 B. Beginning in the Gospels we read about the salvation of man. John 1:18 C. The plan of salvation originated in the mind of God, and was brought to fruition by the Son of God. John 5:27-29
II. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. A. The Holy Spirit has been active since Creation. Gen. 1:2 B. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity. C. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit for believers. D. We need to know about how the Holy Spirit ministers today.
III. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT GOD’S AMAZING GRACE. A. Grace is rarely mentioned in the Old Testament. Genesis 6:8 B. Christ came to reveal more about God’s grace. John 1:16-17 C. There is a well know acronym for GRACE.
IV. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT PRAYER. A. Prayer is communication with God. See Psalm 120:1 B. Christ is the Mediator for our prayers. I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4-7 C. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to pray. Romans 8:26
V. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW TO LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. A. There is more in the Bible about how to live the Christian life than there is of how to become a Christian. B. Perhaps that is because it is harder to live the Christian life than it is to become a Christian. See Matthew 7:21 C. The Christian who lives a victorious life shall receive the crown of life. James 1:12, I Corinthians 15:57
