SCRIPTURE READING: Acts 2:41-47
INTRO: Definitions of worship give us some insight.
I. TYPES OF WORSHIP A. There are several types of “false worship” in the world. 1. Matthew 15:7-9 notes “vain worship.”
2. Acts 17:23 notes “ignorant worship.”
3. Colossians 2:23 points out “will worship.”
B. True Worship is noted in Scripture.
1. John 4:23-24 2. Revelation 5:12 3. Revelation 22:8-9
C. There are two words used to help us understand worship.
1. “Proskeneo” – to make obeisance to, do reverence to.
2. “Latreuo” – “to serve, to render religious service or homage.
II. ACTS OF WORSHIP IN THE CHURCH NOTED IN SCRIPTURE. A. Two ordinances are given in the N.T. for the church. 1. Baptism (see last week’s chart).
2. The Lord’s Supper — Acts 20:7.
B. Preaching – Acts 2 for example.
C. Singing and praising – Ephesians 5:18-21 & Colossians 3:16. D. Praying – Acts 4:24-31; 12:5; 16:25; John 14-16; James 5:16; I Timothy 2:8 E. Giving – Acts 4:32-37; I Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
F. Fellowshipping – Acts 2:42
