SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 11:1-10

INTRO: Today is Palm Sunday, the day we remember the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

I. THE CELEBRATION – Mark 11:1-11

A. Mark records the preparation for the Triumphal Entry. Mark 11:1-7

B. The parade took place. Mark 11:8-11

II. THE CURSING OF THE FIG TREE – Mark 11:2-14; Mark 11:20-26

A. The authority of Jesus was great. Mark 11:12-14

B. Why did Jesus curse the tree?

C. the result was that the tree withered overnight. Mark 11:20-21

D. The lesson that came from the fig tree was a lesson on faith and prayer. Mark 11: 22-26

III. THE CLEANSING OF THE TEMPLE – Mark 11:15-19

A. Jesus removed the moneychangers from the temple! Mark 11:15-16

B. Jesus rebuked the money takers in the temple. Vs. 17-19

C. The chief priests and scribes don’t like what they have seen.

IV. THE CONFLICT WITH THE LEADERS – Mark 11:27-33

A. The next day as they came back to Jerusalem Jesus went straight to

the temple and was asked a question. Mark 11:27-28

B. Jesus posed a question to them in return. Mark 11:29-30

C. Their dilemma was about to trap them. Mark 11:31-33
